Setting up a VPN and Remote Desktop back into your home with a Synology (from an iPhone)

It's amazing that I can basically be my own IT Department. The kinds of things we can do in our homes as individuals with off-the-shelf hardware would have needed an IT Dept of a dozen just 10 years ago, ya know? Amazing.

Drupal VS WordPress and Joomla

Drupal and WordPress are two of the most common CMS's out there and along with Joomla are the most often compared systems. Note, however that there are literally thousands of CMS's out there!! This article will focus on these popular systems and try to answer the question: Which is the right choice and how do you decide which is better?

Bueditor

While Textile markup is simple and fairly easy to grasp, certain users still refuse to learn new concepts like markup languages. Or even in the case of a user like myself who prefers Textile, I sometimes forget the less common Textile markups. Fortunately, Bueditor nicely fills that gap. Bueditor is not a WYSIWYG editor. Rather, it is a highly flexible generic editor that uses simple javascript buttons to inject code tags into a text field. Bueditor has different button sets for different markup formats, such as HTML. It does not, however, support Textile out of the box.

Textile markup

The first key to the solution is the Textile markup language. Textile could be see as a translation layer between the user and HTML. The problem with HTML is that it is somewhat confusing for non-technical users. And even for those who understand it reasonably well, it is time consuming to type HTML tags while trying to write up an article. In my case, I prefer to concentrate on the content that I am writing instead of trying to remember to close my tags. So Textile serves as a middle layer for marking up text with fairly intuitive and brief tags.

The best WYSIWYG option for Drupal is no WYSIWYG

What-You-See-Is-What-You-Get (WYSIWYG) editors for Drupal are abundant. Good ones are not. Most WYSIWYG editors for Drupal produce messy markup and don’t respect the site’s CSS theme. Additionally, many of them don’t integrate well with Drupal and cause problems on certain browsers. Worse yet, almost none of them work on Apple and Android tablets and smartphones. There are a few decent WYSIWYG editors for Drupal that can produce decent markup if the writer uses the tool properly.

The Best Way To Develop Mobile Apps? Don't Develop Mobile Apps!

Nothing like starting off the day with a koan, right? How would one develop a mobile app without developing a mobile app? In my latest piece of research on the future of mobile application development I make the point that if developers over rotate focus to building mobile clients, we risk creating the same sorts of vertical stovepipes we're trying to work our way out of right now with all the web apps we built to run on Wintel in IE6. Rather, I think it's time we broadened our focus and shifted our efforts toward building modern applications.

world without modern technology
Have you ever considered living in a world without modern technology? We wouldn’t have the personal computer you are sitting in front of now, much less cell phone networks, satellites, weaponry system, or any other device that relies on micro technology. What would the world be like if all the technology we’ve developed, discovered, and invented over the last 100 years suddenly stopped working? ...

HOW TO DO ANYTHING

http://www.wikihow.com/Main-PageKnowing how to access another computer from your computer (known as remote accessing) is particularly useful when you use different computers at work and home and need to access files or perform tasks through both computers at the same time or while being only at 1 location. There are many ways to access a computer remotely and you should weigh your options depending on which method you find most convenient and how much you are willing to pay (there are free as well as expensive methods).
